I had hoped that I wouldn't have to write any rants about problems with rail service in England. But what was otherwise a very nice day out yesterday was ruined when the train I was going to take back to Eastbourne broke down in the station at Battle (a small town just north of Hastings where the battle of Hastings actually took place) just as I was about to board. Then the expected delay time for the train stretched from half an hour, to an hour, to two hours. At which point I went looking for a bus. Thankfully bus service back to Hastings was relatively easy to come by, and the trains in Hastings were running without problems, so I got myself back to Eastbourne without too much trouble, it just took quite a lot longer than I had expected.
Today, I'm sticking closer to home.
